Official WYD Pilgrimages
Dear Young People of Melbourne,
I am pleased to announce that once again, the Archdiocese of Melbourne will be organising a number of pilgrimages on the way to the 26th World Youth Day in Madrid in August 2011.
Pilgrimages have a very special place in our Catholic faith and offer us a unique way to grow in holiness. Our Archdiocese has a strong history of encouraging youth to attend International World Youth Days, and as such, three pilgrimages have been carefully developed for you to choose from.
These pilgrimages will create opportunities for you to experience the richness of our Church, to grow in faith, and to develop strong friendships and networks across the Archdiocese and with other young Catholics worldwide.
I invite you to join me, my fellow bishops and other young Catholics from Melbourne on the journey to Madrid.
I look forward to meeting you and sharing this special event together.

World Youth Day in Madrid will provide the young people of the Archdiocese of Sydney with the opportunity to continue to live the extraordinary experience we had in Sydney in July 2008. We invited the youth of the world to join us and Pope Benedict in Sydney. Now we will join the youth of the world responding to the invitation of Pope Benedict to meet with him in Madrid, Spain, in August 2011.
On Palm Sunday in St Peter’s Square 2009, youth representatives from Australia formally handed over the World Youth Day Cross and Icon to youth representatives from Spain.
It concluded what was a great privilege for the Church here in Australia.
Now I invite you to join with young people from every diocese in Australia who will be pilgrims to Spain to attend the World Youth Day in Madrid in August 2011.
